About us
A home in the cloud forest
Villa Oropéndola is a peaceful nature retreat in the heart of Bajos del Toro, an oasis for hikers, bird lovers, and anyone who wants to disconnect and feel at home in the rainforest.
Our cabin blends comfort with nature and sustainability. Here you will often be accompanied by toucans, oropendolas, hummingbirds, and even howler monkeys.
It is not just a place to sleep. It is a place to slow down, listen to the jungle, and reconnect. If you love waterfalls, hiking, birds, and quiet mornings with coffee in the mist, you will feel at home.

The space
The house is cozy, intimate, and made to feel like home after a day of hiking. There are two queen beds: one on the mezzanine and one in a private bedroom. Upstairs you will find a relaxation net overlooking the tree canopy, where you can rest, read, or watch tropical birds while the forest carries on around you.
After a day of adventures, soak in the outdoor terrace hot tub surrounded by the sounds of the valley, a hot bath under the clouds.

Good to know
Bajos del Toro is a small mountain village surrounded by rainforest, waterfalls, and local farms. The experience here is nature, fresh air, and slow travel, not crowds. The village sits between two national parks, Juan Castro Blanco and Poás Volcano.
The climate ranges from about 26°C during the day to 14°C at night, so bring waterproof clothing, warm layers, and proper hiking shoes. Most guests stay two or three nights, because there is more to explore than expected.
Coffee & breakfast
You are in one of Costa Rica's best coffee regions. La Terraza del Café, in the village center, serves a traditional Costa Rican breakfast (gallo pinto, eggs, tortillas) with excellent coffee, oat milk, and almond milk. A morning coffee on our terrace, watching hummingbirds, is often our guests' favourite moment.
Restaurants
Within a ten-minute drive you will find cozy local restaurants: traditional Costa Rican home-style meals, fresh trout as the regional specialty, and vegetarian options in several places. For a local evening we recommend Bar Toro Amarillo and its classic chifrijo, plus karaoke at the weekends.
